Visual Explorations

Exploring color, balance, & hierarchy

I. Geometric Abraction
October, 2018

Photographer

Dazzle Jam Photography

The objective of this visual exploration of color and balance was to create a geometric photo abstraction of an image using one shape throughout the design. I began the exploration by sketching possible compositional solutions, and then transitioned to printing, cutting, and gluing a physical version. The final image was replicated digitally.

II. Forged & Stitched Logo Design

February, 2021

Tasked with designing a logo for a small business Etsy crochet shop, I drew inspiration from the owner's fondness of friendly felines in the final illustration.

III. Together: Two-Dimensional Design

May, 2019

Combining a digital self portrait and multiple sound expressions into one balanced composition, was the goal of this exploration. Redefining the unity and contrast between these different works, led me to utilize scale and movement to see how subtracting and adding elements plays with balance.

IV. Surrealist Landscape

October, 2019

For this project, I was inspired by the imaginative creations of the surrealist artists Dali, Magritte, and Kahlo. I began this project by recording my dreams over the course of one week. By jotting down key themes and elements from my dreams, I had a wide array of imagery to create a surrealist composition. During the design phase of the final montage, I fused reality with the metaphysical, and created a composition that became a reflection of one specific, and might I add, chilly dream state.

V. Ego Equation Photo Series

September, 2019

What began as a class project that served as a jumping off point to begin crafting our self-identities as designers, prompted me to question how I describe myself personally and professionally through the embodiment of a sweet potato. The choice of this symbol is further explained in the introduction of the photo series below.
